What are some of your favorite team building, leadership building, and reflection exercises for a team/community retreat? I feel like I'm on perpetual searches for good, fresh activities that people haven't done before!!
One thing we've actually done is have a member of the team or department be in charge of leading a group activity. Personalities really come out and shine bc each person is responsible do coming up with it and encouraged to do something they enjoy. We’ve had: bonsai sculpting, a yoga class, bead making, a Boggle tournament, and play dough making. It also got a lot of buy in from the team. Super fun!
Most of my ideas aren’t necessarily categorized as “team building”, rather creative activities that bring a team together in an inclusive and comfortable environment. They foster a sense of community and networking versus competition. I need to make sure that my activities (for my groups) are accessible.
Smaller groups:
• Took a team to a glass blowing facility where everyone had the opportunity to make a vase or plate they could take home or put on their desk. There was hands-on support from a professional, so every piece was honestly a work of art. Surprisingly enough, I didn’t receive significant push-back from our Risk Management team. You know, fire and all.
• Hosted a pottery course where again, the team took a self-made creation home.
• We had an in-office terrarium build activity… again, everyone had something they could take home (or put on their desk.) Any activity that supports protecting or fostering the environment my teams are super supportive.
Larger groups:
• Top Golf seems popular these days in the U.S. Not really competitive, but active. I have to be careful with this one should I have someone with mobility restrictions, but then I often have other activities at the venue they can partake.
• Bocce ball is a low impact team sport. Again, someone not comfortable with physical sports always has an alternate way of participating so they feel included and valued.
• I’ve hosted cooking classes, scavenger hunts leveraging mobile devices, and wine educating/tasting events.
Love these ideas, thank you both!!!
We did a great GLOBAL virtual event in "candle making" --> Great for fall 🙂 Was a ton of fun and only required a kitchen. Everyone was sent a box ahead of the event and our candle making guide was fantastic.
If you can travel with your team, we did an event at Cedar Lakes Estates and it was amazing! They organized a lot of the games and made it really fun and energizing and gave our logistics team a much deserved break
Thank you!!

<!here>, we're kicking off this channel to be a dedicated space to support one another as event tech continues to rapidly evolve. This post on LinkedIn inspired me to ask - are you willing to share your event tech stack with the group here? It might help inspire other members to look into new solutions, or ask for your more specific advice or opinion on tech you currently use. As a reminder, we also have the #ai-for-events channel for those interested.
We are planning some private dining events in NYC and I'm curious if there are any hidden gems of event spaces or private dining rooms (Manhattan) that folks would recommend. Dinners will be about 25 people. We did the last one at Little Owl Townhouse and loved it!!
