Hwa Yuan Szechuan
With multiple dining areas and a private party room, there’s a place for every event at Hwa Yuan.
Hwa yuan first began its journey in Chinatown in the 1980’s with the legendary Chef Shorty Tang. The cuisine was loved and liked by locals to celebrities like Steve McQueen, Peter Falk, Paul Newman and renowned New York food critic Mimi Sheraton. Hwa Yuan carefully combines a modern experience with traditional Chinese cuisine with a twist. Visitors has traveled all over the country to try at that time, innovative Asian cuisine including Cold Sesame Noodles and Szechuan cuisine. It was sadly missed when Hwa Yuan closed its doors. 30 Years in the making, Chef Chen Lien Tang, the son of Chef Shorty Tang decided to revitalize and bring the magic of Hwa Yuan back to Chinatown with a simple idea: bring the very best of fine dining and “Sichuan-world” cuisine to NYC. It is established in the very same location it first opened in the 1980’s, sporting a lavish three-story Chef Chen Lien Tang felt that it is his obligation to bring back luxury Chinese fine dining cuisine to Chinatown. In the 30-year hiatus Chef Chen Lien Tang re-perfected the Cold Sesame Noodles, Peking Duck, and brining made to freshly made to order Xiao Long Bao and Dumplings back. In addition, Chef Tang wants to bring back and educate Szechuan style cuisine, since Szechuan cuisine is not only spicy food. Spicy food is only served during ceremonies, holidays or events.
