About

The Palace plays a major role during state visits, but also at other royal receptions, such as the annual New Year's reception, dinners, and award ceremonies. It is the setting for the most important events of the monarchy: royal weddings and the abdication and inauguration of the head of state of the Netherlands. The palace was originally built as Amsterdam's town hall. It is one of the most important monuments from the seventeenth century. In 1808 it was used as a palace by King Louis Napoleon and it has remained a palace ever since.
