The Football Museum is an institution of the Secretary of Culture of the State of São Paulo. Conceived by the Roberto Marinho Foundation, it was inaugurated on September 29, 2008. Its mission is to investigate, preserve and communicate football as a cultural expression in Brazil, in dialogue with all audiences, to instigate and inspire ideas and experiences based on football. During the visit to the Museum, it is possible to understand how football helped to form the Brazilian identity and how the trajectory of stars like Pelé and Garrincha represents Brazilian culture as well as icons of plastic arts, literature, theater and music. The Museum narrates the history of Brazil and soccer in the 20th century, highlighting the sport as one of the most recognized cultural manifestations in the country.
