The life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven is inextricably linked to Vienna. The composer first came to the city in 1787 to study with Mozart, and from 1792 he lived here permanently. Three apartments associated with Beethoven have long been among the locations of the Wien Museum. However, until now there has not been a comprehensive Beethoven Museum in the city where he worked. This gap has now been closed: The Beethoven apartment in Heiligenstadt at Probusgasse 6 in the 19th district has been expanded from a small memorial to a large Beethoven museum dedicated to the entire life and work of the composer. According to tradition, the house at Probusgasse 6 is associated with a shocking testimony of Beethoven. In 1802 he wrote the "Heiligenstadt Testament" here, which was addressed to his brothers but never sent a letter in which he expressed his despair at his progressive deafness. Closed: 01/01, 01/05 and 25.12. as well as Easter and Whit Monday and other public holidays that fall on a Monday. The life and work of Ludwig van Beethoven are inseparably bound up with Vienna. In 1787, the composer first came to the city to study with Mozart, from 1792 onwards he lived permanently here. Three apartments associated with Beethoven have long since featured among Wien Museum's sites. Yet, until now, the city in which he composed so many of his works has never had a comprehensive Beethoven Museum.
