Alexander Michael's
Your neighborhood tavern no matter where you live.
Unfortunately, Alexander Michael's hasn't added any spaces to their profile on The Vendry.
The building that houses Alexander Michael's is known historically as the Crowell-Berryhill Store and was originally opened in 1897 and served as “The Berryhill Store” for many years. In the '60s and early '70s the 4th Ward neighborhood began to deteriorate. The building was among other things a paint store, a laundry mat and a gym for an English wrestler named “Tinker Todd”. In the late '70s a group of investors/speculators began to revitalize the neighborhood. Buildings and houses were stripped to their frames, moved or destroyed. The building that is now Alexander Michael's was almost demolished but was refurbished to its present state by Cullie and Sylvia Tarleton. In the early 1980’s it was opened as a neighborhood store & deli for the community, but at that time there were not enough people living in the area to support it.
