Nisei
"Japanese California Washoku cuisine served in a fine dining setting."
Host your next event or private dinner at Nisei. Our private dining room is available for an exclusive experience for groups of 8 to 20 guests. Looking to host an event with more than 20 guests? Nisei and Iris offer full buy-outs with ample notice. Nestled in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, Nisei is the debut restaurant of Chef David Yoshimura, the former Chef de Cuisine at Michelin-starred Californios. Nisei is a testament to Chef David Yoshimura’s Japanese-American heritage. The tasting menu is based on California Washoku cuisine, Washoku meaning “harmony of food”, also referred to as the “home cooking” of Japan. The philosophy of Washoku focuses on a set of principles emphasizing balance of color, taste preparations, sense, and respect to food. To accompany the experience Nisei also features a variety of beverages carefully curated from around the world to enjoy with your meal selected by GM & Sommelier Ian Cobb. Nisei began as a pop-up restaurant in 2019 hosting a 10-course tasting menu around the Bay Area for over two years. After finally settling into its brick and mortar location at 2316 Polk Street, the team at Nisei looks forward to serving you.
