Avena means grain, the staff of life. Northern Italian chef Roberto Deiaco presents a modern Italian menu at AVENA Downtown, in the heart of Greenwich Village, at the ex-Da Silvano location. Chef Deiaco was previously the Executive Chef at Armani Ristrorante 5th Avenue and Cipriani. He came to New York to work at Palio in the mid 90's. He established his first restaurant, East 12th Osteria, in 2013, which was immediately praised by The Financial Times as among the 5 Best Italian restaurants in New York. Avena Downtown's menu emphasizes freshness and modern techniques in Chef Deiaco's interpretation of Italian cuisine. We only use unbleached, organic Italian flour to make all our breads, pasta, and pastries each day. We make 3 different kinds of bread throughout the day for lunch and dinner service. All our ice cream, sorbet and desserts are made fresh daily, using organic or biodynamic dairy or produce.
