The Ear Inn
The Ear Inn. The oldest working bar in NYC. Beers & bar bites are on the menu at this popular joint in a landmarked, circa-1817 building.
Unfortunately, The Ear Inn hasn't added any spaces to their profile on The Vendry.
As one of New York's oldest restaurants and bars, it's incumbent on us to serve the freshest bar food in the city. The libations don't stop until 4 am daily, but our kitchen closes at 2 am Monday through Thursday. Friday through Saturday we serve food until 3 am and on Sunday the kitchen closes at 1 am. Since the liberation from Prohibition, the bar had no name. To sailors and longshoremen, it was like a clubhouse and known as "The Green Door." In 1977, new resident-owners christened the place the Ear Inn, so chosen to avoid the Landmark commission's lengthy review of any new sign. They just painted out the round part of the "B" in BAR, and thus, the "EAR"
