Carroll Hall
A rare and unexpected event space celebrating nature in New York City
Carroll Hall is a brand new, multi-faceted venue in the heart of Bushwick, NY with a lush open-air courtyard garden, warehouse with a private mezzanine lounge, a dining area with a catering kitchen, and a discreet wooden “treehouse.” The venue is available for all types of private events from art exhibits and performances to weddings and corporate functions. We love the city, but really need more time in nature. We assume most New Yorkers would agree. Deeply inspired by our family, we created this space as a quiet retreat among plants, birds, insects, and urban wildlife, and invite the community to enjoy the space with our free Open Garden events held throughout the year. Discovery, wonder, and the unexpected are big themes... Handmade mosaic murals tell stories of underground creatures. There are moving walls and secret doors. The plants are an idealized woodland, dressed-up cousins of what might have grown along the edges of fields and farms past. Birds, bees and butterflies are invited back. The buildings “breathe” with automated natural ventilation. Fountains and water features collect and recycle stormwater for irrigation. A decade of design and construction led to a complex and interwoven series of architectural ideas that coalesced into a rare and unexpected nature retreat in New York City.
Carroll Hall carries its own liquor license and so our bar packages are exclusive. Carroll Hall has preferred vendors but you are welcome to bring in your own. New vendors must sign a contract with Carroll Hall and carry their own insurance. There is a kitchen prep area but not a full commercial kitchen. The kitchen prep area includes a sink, large commercial fridge, dishwasher, counter tops for prep, and an ice-machine. All of this is available to you.
We are taking Covid very seriously at Carroll Hall to ensure the safety of our clients, their guests, vendors, and staff. We offer masks, sanitizer, and multiple restrooms for hand washing. We encourage social distancing and limited occupancy for events. All of our staff are vaccinated. Our many windows and skylights open for ventilation throughout the Warehouse and Treehouse. The Warehouse also features a large roll-up door at the front entrance and an 8'x8' pivot door at the opposite end leading out to the garden, offering plenty of ventilation and a lovely cross breeze. The mezzanine in the Warehouse includes an open balcony. Our private dining and catering area, Rose’s Room, features a floor-to-ceiling wall that opens up to the garden.
There is limited street parking in the surrounding area so we encourage using public transportation or car service. Carroll Hall is within close walking distance of the Morgan subway stop on the L train, and the Flushing Ave stop on the J and M trains. The B60 bus stops at Morgan & Thames which is on the same block as Carroll Hall. There is another bus two blocks away- the B57 at the Flushing and Wilson Ave stop.
Carroll Hall is at the forefront of several sustainable practices in NYC, including rainwater reuse and technological innovations in natural ventilation. Beneath the inclined end of the 13,000 sq ft site, a sub-ground building houses a 5000 gallon water tank that collects and filters water run-off for garden irrigation. Many of the original bricks were kept and reused to form the 12ft high wall that now surrounds the garden, and existing ceramic brick walls are from the prior warehouse structure. Also reused is most of the interior wood. Carroll Hall and Dameron Architecture were awarded the 2022 AIA New York Design Award, Citation for Reclaiming Urban Space
