The historic Francis Marion Hotel has a long tradition of gracious service, elegant accommodations, and hosting splendid banquets and events dating back to its opening in 1924. Built by local investors at a cost of $1.5 million from plans by noted New York architect W.L. Stoddard, the Francis Marion was the largest hotel in the Carolinas. The Francis Marion Hotel was “the place to be”. Meticulously restored in 1996 with a $12 million National Trust for Historic Preservation award winning restoration, the Francis Marion Hotel now combines 1920’s style and grace with 21st Century comfort and convenience in the heart of historic Charleston on Marion Square. Many of the Hotel’s 234 guestrooms & suites offer spectacular views of Charleston. Centrally located downtown, it is an easy walk to magnificent gardens, antique shops and boutiques, and world-class restaurants. With such on-site amenities as Spa Adagio, the Swamp Fox Restaurant and Bar, Starbucks, and 18,000 square feet of meeting space, no one will fault you if you end up staying inside the Francis Marion Hotel for the duration of your stay.
The Francis Marion catering staff has created a wide range of menus and a la carte selections to make your event unique. From a light luncheon to sit-down dinner for 200, you are sure to find the perfect menu. The catering staff has also developed a series of specialty theme menus to help meeting planners create a vibrant and memorable event. Much of our menu features regional specialties to help bring a true Charleston flavor to events. Try our Shrimp and Grits, Crab Cake, or Chicken and Waffle Stations. Along with our specialty menus the hotel also has entire theme events, including props.

The Historic Francis Marion Hotel has taken proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of our guests and staff members. These measures include increased cleaning of high touch areas throughout the hotel, constant sanitation of public areas, limits on the number of guests in particular areas, and the health screening of our staff. Each department has dedicated a significant amount of time and care into policies and procedures to align with guidelines from local authorities, DHEC and the SCLRA. We are confident in our plan and are excited to welcome you.

As a proud member of the South Carolina Green Hospitality Alliance and a member of Green Hotels Association, we offer guests a completely smoke-free facility for a more clean, comfortable and healthy environment. We also take additional environmental care throughout the hotel, shutting off power on floors not in use and keeping thermostats at optimal temperatures over summer and winter months to help curtail energy consumption. In an effort to conserve water and reduce waste, we have Towel Rack Hangers and Sheet Changing Cards which allow guests the option to decline daily linen and terry change service. The hotel partners with Clean the World, a social enterprise executing their mission to protect the environment and save millions of lives by distributing recycled soap and hygiene products to children and families. We also donate bed linens, mattresses and towels to local charities when they are ready to be retired.
