Amsterdam Ale House
A charming neighborhood restaurant & craft beer bar in the heart of New York City's Upper West Side.
When we first opened on the corner in the early 1930’s the ambiance of Sweeney’s Bar was defined by cobblestone streets; a custom embossed tin ceiling; and custom tiffany windows and lamps (which can still be seen today). Though much of the ambiance has changed along with the flourishing Upper West Side, the original establishment remains a nightcap staple for the common neighborhood patron. Now the modern day Amsterdam Ale House, our owners and staff strive to maintain the warmth and familial environment of that old school pub. Traditional pub fare along with modern twists can be seen on our menu, offering options for the late night meals after a show at the Beacon Theatre or a day with family following a trip to Central Park. One must remember — what is an ale house without a selection of world class beers?! With over 100 beers (on tap, bottled, and canned) we take pride in supporting local New York breweries as well as imported classics that you can only find in our wares.
