The café honors a trio of matriarchs: Chef Grayson Corrales’ aunt for whom MariPili is named, her abuela Emilia Ferreiro, who taught her to cook the food that celebrates their family’s heritage in northwest Spain, and Frieda Sondland, a passionate supporter of the Frye Art Museum. MariPili at Café Frieda is designed by artists Elizabeth Corkery and Graham McDougal of the fine art print and design atelier Print Club Ltd. Fruits of the sea and fields collide with geometric abstraction on custom-designed textiles and draperies. Swirls of fishing nets sprawl across hand-painted ceiling murals to unite the coastal identities of Seattle and Galicia.
