The Kaiserhof is the most representative of the ten courts of the Residenz. It was created in the 1610s under the rule of Duke Maximilian I, when the guest rooms in the west wing were laid out. These were reserved for the emperor's visits, which also explains his name. The courtyard facades enclose an area of 3717 square meters and are uniformly painted in the fresco style of Italian Renaissance painting.
