Overview

An unparalleled cultural and artistic value, among the largest equestrian sculptures in the world, it has welcomed visitors to the Hippodrome since 1999. Its history dates back to 1482, when the Duke of Milan, Ludovico Il Moro, commissioned its design to Leonardo Da Vinci who failed to complete the work. In 1977 a US civilian pilot, fascinated by the figure of the Italian genius, created the Leonardo Da Vinci's Horse Foundation and managed to raise the necessary funds to build the statue. In 1999 Leonardo's horse was donated to the city of Milan and exhibited at the Snai San Siro racecourse, becoming one of its symbo. In 2019 it was a point of attraction as part of the celebrations for the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo Da Vinci and since then 12 reproductions of the equestrian statue, created by international designers, have been exhibited in the various areas of the Hippodrome and keep company with the mother work.
