Overview

Music as the focal point – that was the idea of the architect Hans Scharoun when he designed the main auditorium of the Philharmonie Berlin in the early 1960s. A concert hall with the musicians’ podium in the center, surrounded by a vineyard-like seating arrangement with ascending terraces, was an entirely new concept at the time but was soon imitated all over the world. The main auditorium of the Philharmonie became the most important concert hall in Berlin, not least because of its outstanding acoustics. The hall can accommodate 2,410 guests (2,206 seats, standing room for 24 people, 8 wheelchair positions plus 8 seats for the people accompanying them, which are not for sale). In addition, you also have the option of adding 120 podium seats and 44 special seats for a fee. 39 house seats and VIP box seats are not included in the total number of seats and may not be sold or used otherwise.
