the cell is a multi-purpose art venue in the heart of Chelsea. Originally built in 1901 as a tenement house, this historic brownstone was converted into an art and performance venue in 2007 by Founding Artistic Director Nancy Manocherian. With flexible seating arrangements for up to 65 and a large inventory of theatrical lighting and sound equipment, our Main Space is an ideal fit for theatrical productions, small parties, events, and concerts. This space also opens to a spacious backyard with additional capacity for seating and standing room. Two flights up is our Gallery Floor, which is an open plan space divides into three sections. With terrific natural light and spacious balcony, this area is excellent for workshops, rehearsals, small parties and intimate events. On the 4th level of the cell is our Residency Floor. The larger space has a brilliant skylight and tall ceilings while the smaller space is equally fit for intimate readings and workshop.
