The 2020 RTCA Awards

In a normal year, The Radio and Television Correspondents’ Association (RTCA) celebrates its annual award winners with a colorful, fun and memorable dinner attended by 600+ association members and supporters from the congressional media community. RTCA wanted to ensure that the tradition continued in 2020, despite the restrictions on in-person events caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. ADVOC8 worked with the dinner chairs to identify a cost effective strategy to carry on tradition without an in person event. Given the busy news cycle on Capitol Hill, an election year and collective screen fatigue, ADVOC8 devised a simple but visually engaging website celebrating the best in congressional journalism and giving 2020 award winners their moment in the spotlight. In recognition of the hardships caused by the pandemic, the experience included a community impact element via a $5,000 donation to DC Central Kitchen, an organization that supports the Capitol Hill community battling food insecurity and responding to Covid-19 in RTCA’s backyard. The final call to action encouraged visitors to re-allocate the money they would have spent on tickets to the organization.
