Overview
From J Street Group LLC
The Barbara Bush Foundation Celebration of Reading events are a time to gather bestselling authors, community leaders, and friends to raise community awareness of the importance of literacy. In addition to helping draw national attention to literacy issues, these events benefit local communities. Proceeds from the National Celebration of Reading will help continue to expand our family literacy services to parents and children in Virginia, DC, and Maryland The Celebration of Reading consisted of a luncheon held at the Supreme Court. Fifty guests were invited to the luncheon where associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Samuel Anthony Alito, Jr. came to speak. The National Celebration of Reading program took place at the Library of Congress where bestselling authors AJ Jacobs, Jon Meacham, First Lady Laura Bush and Jenna Bush Hager, and David Baldacci helped raise awareness about low literacy, thus screening the importance of the encounter to the rest of the public. The evening included a book signing, a VIP Author’s Reception, a performance by Linda Carter and a celebration dinner.
