By day, it’s the starting point for all Ryman tours: a custom- built 100-seat theater designed to showcase the Soul of Nashville experience, our multimedia walk through the Ryman’s colorful history. By night, it’s a wonderful, versatile room for hosting a variety of events, from special celebrations and receptions to special announcements and private parties. Add a private backstage tour for an experience your guests will be talking about for years to come.

James K. Polk Theater is an amazingly intimate proscenium theater for its size, with a maximum seating capacity of 1,075, including 44 pit seats. It also features a vomitorium and a semi-thrust pit, which allows for more interaction between the artists and audience. The stage is 87’9” wide x 50’0” deep, with a 46’11” x 30’2” proscenium opening.

Andrew Johnson Theater, a 59’0” x 54’0” black box, is the most flexible and intimate performance space in Tennessee Performing Arts Center. Designed to encourage experimentation in theatre, music, and dance, it offers freedom in spatial arrangement for both audience and performers, including thrust, cabaret, and in-the-round seating. Maximum seating capacity is 264. This space also features overhead catwalks.

War Memorial Auditorium is located across from the 6th Avenue entrance to TPAC. The 65”10’ x 33”7’ crescent-shaped stage, where several live albums have been recorded, contributes to the auditorium’s superb acoustics. This renovated facility functions as a multi-purpose space and offers the flexibility of theatrical, cabaret, banquet seating, or an open-floor configuration on the orchestra level. The room accommodates a maximum seating capacity of 400 on orchestra level when set in the banquet configuration. Maximum seating capacity in the theatrical configuration is 1,661. War Memorial Auditorium has no fly space, and cannot support overhead onstage rigging.

The wall between the Studio and the Ragsdale Grand Lobby is removable so the two areas can be used as one large room or separated, for use as lobby space or pre-function activities.  The Opera Studio is immediately adjacent to the catering kitchen.  A freight elevator opens into the space for easy set-up and strike.

Your experience at Schermerhorn Symphony Center begins the moment you walk into the lobby – you sense that grand and exciting things are in store. In the Main Lobby, massive two-story columns rise from the marble floor. The East and West Lobbies feature a two-story atrium topped by a skylight. Italian and Spanish marble abound, punctuated by nickel-silver accents including renditions of the iris, Tennessee’s state flower.

Perched at the top of the grand staircases that wind up the east and west sides of the Main Lobby, the Balcony Lobby offers commanding views through nearby windows and balconies, as well as a feeling of openness. This rarefied space is defined by its tall, double barrel-vaulted ceiling and access to two open-air balconies overlooking the downtown skyline. It also flows on either end into skylit, three-story staircase towers. The Symphony’s largest signature bar is also located in the Balcony Lobby.

Designed and equipped for maximum functionality as an event space. Full, built-in audiovisual services include a drop-down LCD projector and large screen. A proscenium arch marks one end of the room, and the acoustics are tailored to small-scale musical performances and speaking occasions. The room can be configured into any arrangement — including rows of seating or luncheon tables.
