The villa was a country residence of the local episcopal curia. Some texts of the andrea pozzo an architect of the jesuits as was the custom each congrega used only an architect at the time mention the existence of the villa already at the end of the 1700s. Its position is very peculiar because it is oriented so that the moon rises exactly behind the hill on which Montepulciano rises from a distance. The villa had a private chapel located on the ground floor which was not restored during the renovation and therefore only traces remain of the apsidal area. From the 1920s it was owned by the Baiocchi family one of the most important families of Montepulciano who sold it with all the property land and buildings to the Ligresti family in 1978 now owned by Tenute del Cerro S.p.A. of the Unipol group.
