Teatro Degollado
Teatro Degollado is a neoclassical Mexican theater known for its diverse performances and artistic design.
The Degollado Theater is an icon of our cultural heritage and an emblematic venue of artistic excellence. It is currently the headquarters of the Jalisco Philharmonic Orchestra. It has a portico that shows off a tympanum with the theme “Apollo and the Muses” in high relief of travertine marble, made by the sculptor Benito Castañeda. The main room of the theater is crowned by the mural inspired by the “Fourth Song of the Divine Comedy” by Dante Alighieri, created by the Jalisco painters Jacobo Gálvez, Gerardo Suárez and Carlos Villaseñor. Also notable on the vault of the room is the wooden sculpture of an eagle holding a piece of wood in its beak and the Flag of Mexico in its talons.
