The Blue Anchor has a rich history of being haunted. Built in London in the 1840's during Jack The Ripper times, Bertha Starkey lived above the bar with her husband, who was gone for long lengths of time due to work. One night while her husband was away, Bertha invited a gentleman over for a visit, her husband came home early, found the two in a compromising position and murdered them both. For over a century, the pub has been haunted by the ghost of the young Bertha Starkey. Years later the bar was razed in London, but its facade and rich wood interior features were disassembled and shipped to New York City. They were stored there until 1996 when they were brought to Del Ray Beach; along with the ghost of Bertha. To this day in Del Ray Beach, footsteps can be heard at night after closing, candles light and extinguish themselves along with banging pots and pans and the sound of Bertha wailing. New bar owners and local residents, Mark and Peggy Snyder, welcome you to The Blue Anchor. Enjoy great food, drinks, soccer and the sounds of Bertha each night!
