La Casa del Libro Museum

The book is art: our mission is to educate, inspire and enrich the Puerto Rican and international communities through the book and its arts. To this end, we conserve, preserve, study, interpret, offer workshops, and make our extraordinary collection accessible to diverse audiences, through initiatives directed and supported by different artistic expressions. In 1955, a group of citizens founded a society, Amigos de Calle del Cristo 255, Inc. with the purpose of creating a specialized library of outstanding copies of the best in book production and design throughout the centuries, from manuscripts and incunabula, even the best and most significant among those printed in our time. The collection would reveal the entire history of the book. In addition, the library would include another class of books: those that, due to their content and the recognized authority of their authors, would be useful as a reference and guide in matters of special interest to the bibliophile, the librarian, the printer, the designer, etc.
