In the early summer of 1970, as the cumbersome 20 foot oak bar was propelled through the now famous window at 10th and Howard Street by Art Abariotes and Tom Harmson and other friends, family and colleagues now lost to history, a dream within a dream began to be realized and over the next 6 months of hard work, sweat equity and any money they could muster, that dream, Mr. Toads, on 10th and Howard opened the day of Christmas in 1970. The larger dream, the old Market as we know it today, had been precisely pre-figured by Arty Abariotes and Rusty Harmsen. Mr. Toads quickly became an iconic symbol of a emerging Market area just as they had hoped.
