Brauerei zur Malzmühle
The Brauerei zur Malzmühle, which opened more than 160 years ago, is a real family brewery that is now run by the fifth generation of the Schwartz family.
The Brauerei zur Malzmühle Schwartz GmbH & Co. KG - owned by the Schwartz family for five generations - is real Kölsch with heart and soul. As the oldest brewery on the Heumarkt, the Malzmühle is one of the most traditional breweries in the city. Regardless of whether you are a regular guest or come to us for the first time, people can feel at home in one of the most popular breweries in Cologne. Freshly tapped Mühlen Kölsch and a delicious, hearty brewery kitchen with many Cologne specialties are an invitation to all generations. In a convivial atmosphere and an unmistakable facility, you will experience the honest, down-to-earth, and cordial Cologne way of life as a living tradition. Bill Clinton's visit to the brewery on Heumarkt confirmed that this tradition is also enjoyed in the highest circles. On the occasion of the G8 summit in 1999, as acting President of the United States of America, he drank a few sticks of fresh Mühlen Kölsch with the Rhenish Sauerbraten. In the guest book of the brewery he left the dedication "Thank you, the meal was wonderful." Mühlen Kölsch has been brewed and bottled by hand in the traditional way since 1858 in the original building of the Brauerei zur Malzmühle am Heumarkt. Since the summer of 2022, production has taken place in the Brauwelt Köln in Cologne-Kalk, where both Mühlen Kölsch and Sünner Kölsch are brewed by hand.
