Built in 1928, the Comedy Theatre is a blend of European flavours. The exterior is a replica of a Florentine palace and the interior shows a strong Spanish influence. The venue underwent a significant refurbishment in 2017 which included new seats, new air conditioning and some upgraded amenities on the dress circle level. As well as playing host to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival each year, audiences can enjoy a diverse range of theatre and live entertainment. Famous shows to have played at the Comedy Theatre include; Come From Away (three times!), Avenue Q, Rock of Ages, Waiting for Godot, The Rocky Horror Show, Jagged Little Pill, American Idiot, Girl From The North Country, Once, A Christmas Carol, Calamity Jane and The Mousetrap.
