The theater has an opera hall with 1,687 seats, an experimental theater with 350 seats and three rehearsal halls with different functions. It was officially opened on May 9, 2010, with the opening performance of the opera Turandot conducted by Lorin Maazel. The Guangzhou Opera House is operated by the China Theatre Company, a subsidiary of the China International Cultural Exchange Group Co., Ltd., a central enterprise of the cultural sector.
