The West Seattle diner with a pirate ship-shaped dive bar and a fishpond on the floor first opened in 1950 and closed in 2002, after the passing of owner Neysa Longmire. “Raise your glass in teary R.I.P. for West Seattle’s Admiral Benbow Inn, the only bar in town where you could enjoy a bourbon and Coke in the coziness of its bowels-of-a-pirate-ship surroundings”. Wrote Melanie Mcfarland in the Seattle Times in 2002. “Arggh!” 20 years later, the iconic Benbow Inn & Chart Room has risen from the depths of Davy Jones’ Locker (pirate ship intact) as The Admiral Benbow Room.
