Desert Island
This historic course in the heart of Rancho Mirage was members-only for decades, until this year.
The vintage course on Desert Island is a green oasis set against a sea of desert sand, 120 rolling, manicured acres meandering around a serpentine, 25-acre lake. It’s been a destination for lovers of the sport for five decades. The course was designed by the legendary Desmond Muirhead (1923-2002), one of golf’s most famous, iconoclastic architects, who spent his whole career going against the grain of conventional course design. It's scenic from any angle, challenging but not outlandish, with gentle slopes, refreshment stations, shade trees, short distances between greens and tee boxes, and many personal amenities. Desert Island was kept private for 50 years but reopened to the public in 2022 offering limited public tee times.
