Overview
From LEO Events
Spanning 91 years and 42 competitions, the Ryder Cup is a biennial men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States. In 2021, LEO Events produced the 43rd Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony – intended to excite fans and spectators and introduce the tournament setting, culminating in the reveal of matches for the U.S. and European Ryder Cup teams. As one of the world’s most anticipated live sporting events, the Ryder Cup Opening Ceremony needed to offer a perfect balance of spectacle and sport. LEO’s adept B2B experience set us apart from our B2C competition. Although it is a massive public event, the LEO team crafted a sense of formality that was necessary for such an occasion. We were challenged with producing an unforgettable Opening Ceremony and Pre-Show, providing top-notch entertainment, technical support, scriptwriting, and event management through schedule production, broadcast support, and flyover coordination – all while feeding into a crescendo of suspense encompassing the match reveals. Hosted at Whistling Straits Golf Course in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, along miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the Opening Ceremony took place on September 23, 2021. LEO worked closely with PGA of America and Golf Channel to broadcast the ceremony live to millions across the globe. The ceremony began with an exclusive, pre-show experience for in-person attendees, including luminaries and VIPs, before seamlessly transitioning to televised broadcast.
