Get There
What is the best way to get to Dallas?
Flying: Dallas-Fort Worth airport is the busier of the city’s two airports. Dallas Love Field is located closer to downtown but it has fewer flight options. Both provide daily direct flights into Dallas.
Train: Two Amtrak routes serve the Dallas-Fort Worth area: the Texas Eagle, which runs between San Antonio and Chicago, and the Heartland Flyer, which runs between Fort Worth and Oklahoma City.
Car: From Houston, which is 250 miles north of Dallas, drivers should take I-45, and from Austin, you’d use I-35 North. The downtown area is laid out on a grid, making it easy to navigate. But highways and major roads around Dallas can become congested during rush hour, so keep that in mind when traveling by car.
What is the best time to visit Dallas?
Dallas is known for its blazing hot summers and rainy winters, which is why spring and fall are considered the best times to visit. In addition to experiencing pleasant temps, from March to May, you can catch the bluebonnets in bloom. This is also when the Dallas Blooms, the biggest floral festival in the Southwest, is held at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden. In the fall, tourist activity usually quiets down, but football season kicks off then, driving up hotel prices. Plus, the State Fair of Texas is held every year in Dallas, starting at the end of September, so expect crowds during that time. Other notable events include the Deep Ellum Arts Festival in April and the Taste of Dallas in June.
